Last chance actions against the death penalty in Indonesia

April 27, 2015 at 12:03 am (Amnesty International, Andrew Chan, Bali Nine, Capital Punishment, Death Penalty, Foreign News, Indonesia, Myuran Sukumaran, petitions, Take Action, Uncategorized) (, )

Now that word has been hannded down that 9 prisoners, including Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran will be executed as soon as Tuesday night.

We still have a chance to make our opposition known and to save the lives of these people and the fifty others facing the death penalty in Indonesia this year.

Since the executions resumed in January, there have been significant breakthroughs in the campaign in Indonesia – Garuda Air, the national airline, has refused to transport prisoners to the site of their executions, senior government figures and allies have started to speak out and the prospect of a future moratorium on capital punishment has been raised.

We are making a difference, and it is not yet too late to save these lives.

Please join us at today’s rally

St Stephen’s Cathedral, 249 Elizabeth St in Brisbane

Vigil to end the Death Penalty in Indonesia – 18th Feb, Brisbane

February 18, 2015 at 4:13 am (Amnesty International, Bali Nine, Capital Punishment, Events, Take Action) (, , )

6pm Wednesday 18th February
King George Square

As the grieving families of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan hold vigils for their sons in Sydney & Melbourne, Brisbane will also stand for mercy at 6pm Wednesday 18th February in King George Square.

Please join with Amnesty, Australians Against Capital Punishment, Australian Lawyers for Human Rights and Brisbane Mercy Vigil at this vigil for Myuran and Andrew, their families and indeed, others around facing the death penalty around the world.

With vigils now to be held in most capital cities, Australia will be making a peaceful and powerful stand for Mercy and urge the Indonesian President to halt executions.

The death penalty is a violent, inhumane and outdated punishment that has no place in today’s criminal justice system.
